Ok, but can this phone make dinner, too?

I'm thrilled to have my new 3G iPhone, though I'm still learning how to use it. So far, I've entertained myself and the kids with funny applications like Jared, Bubbles and a rotary dialer but I've also found some great ways to be productive while waiting in line at the grocery store or in between the kids' sporting events.

It's the little things that make me smile. Sure, it's great to have access to most of my music, email, text messages and the internet.  The device is so intuitive, it almost reads your mind (pipe in sci-fi music here). Moving within applications is a snap since they're designed with multiple user options in mind. Even the earbuds have a microphone attached to the cord which doubles as a way to click from phone to music by simply pressing it. Very sharp!

There's no limit it seems to what this gadget might do, but I hope to share more as I learn what I've been missing with my ordinary cell phone. In the meantime, I would suggest someone create an application that plans dinner for the week!

Still waiting for my 3G iPhone

Let me introduce myself... I'm Mickey, also known as michelina on I work for Sears and will be guest authoring in the AskRob blog from time to time. I hope you'll enjoy reading my musings, rants and raves about many topics and will also share your thoughts!

Unlike the many die-hard iPhone fans who braved the early morning lines on July 11, 2008 I decided to stop in to my local AT&T store later that day to order the much anticipated 3G iPhonein black. I knew there was NO chance of walking out with the device when I arrived at 5pm, but I'd been assured to receive it within 2-10 business days. Placing my order through Direct Fulfillment, I was told, should put this exciting new technology in my hands soon enough.

Well folks, it's been 8 days and still no word on when it will ship. The AT&T wireless forumconfirms that I'm not the only one who's wondering if this is a minor delay. A friend of mine gently inferred that I might have to wait a few weeks, while another rolled her eyes at me for being so consumed with the idea of having an iPhone at all. "What's wrong with an ordinary cell phone?" she asked. My mind drifted as I quietly envisioned being able to carry carry thousands of songs with me, tapping through vibrant screens to surf the internet and reply to email, and of course, calling my school-aged kids as I typically do a couple of times each day.

But more than this, I really want to learn. I'd consider myself one of those life-long learners. You know the type... always taking classes at the local community college or collecting (and reading) books on a wide range of topics just for the sake of keeping boredom at bay. The thought of figuring out how something that fits easily in your hand can do so much out of the box yet can be customized based on individual interests just amazes me. I'll be curious to see which of the FREE downloadable applicationsI'll use most. I doubt that I'll pay for any applications, unless they're really worth it. I wonder how the lucky ones who have the new 3G iPhone are using it?

Welcome to Our Community

PhotoHi, my name is Rob Harles and I run the Sears & Kmart Community. I am pretty new to this role - I have only been here a few months. So, you may need to forgive some of bumps that are likely to occur along the way. I hope you are enjoying the experience so far, and I am looking forward to getting your feedback as you use the site.

Why We Started a Community

We really want to get to know our customers better, and the best way to do that we think is to talk with you directly.

Truth is, in spite of a lot of hard work and good intentions, we don't always get it right. So, we want to hear from you: what you like, what you don't, and what you think we should add or change. We invite you to be candid and also constructive. Of course, we’d also love to hear about your positive experiences whether you’ve shopped in one of our stores or online. Knowing this will help us shape a new retail experience which we hope will meet your needs today and into the future.

Coming Soon

Shortly, you will be able to create your own groups and forums. Whether you enjoy DIY projects, fixing your car, sports or crafting, there will be a place for you to share your ideas, express your thoughts and connect with others. Look for an incentive program coming soon that rewards you for being an active participant in our community! As you post comments, write reviews, get others to join and are helpful to other members, you will become eligible for a variety of thank-you gifts and special offers.

Your Community

On a personal note, this is your community. While we may add functions and suggest ideas, we really want you to provide the content and direction. You can talk with us, but you can also talk with each other. So, take time to build your profile, write some reviews, and post your comments, ideas and photos. Most importantly, invite your friends and family to join. With your help this will be a fun and exciting place to be.

Feel free to write me, I will be looking for writers and guests to participate in this blog. We may even encourage you to start your own. Got an idea, let me know.
